Avant Garde was founded on a love of the experimental; the one-off moment that defines a night, a day, a year or a lifetime. Creating those moments, those connections and memories, those emotions, can be difficult, but hearing music live, hearing it raw and created or tweaked in the now, is one of the ways to create a truly special time. To that end, we’ve curated a lineup that flirts between the Dj and the man behind the machine.
Most of us will have experienced a time when a particular artist connects with us through their music; the sense of euphoria, the goosebumps, the hairs on one’s neck standing on end. Many have felt this through the ieclectic sounds of one of Germanys most prolific electronica artist - Apparat. Apparat who is one half of Moderat is one of the most forward thinking and genre-defining musical entities of modern years; Having Apparat play his only solo show of 2017 with us, is one of the most exciting bookings we’ve ever made for Avant Garde.
Where Apparat traverse the regions of modern electronica and heavy chunky stabs, Herndrick Webber AKA Pantha Du Prince delves deeper into the melodica we love so much. Affiliated with Rough Trade and Dial Records, as well as his enigmatic live tiad show, the revered German composer is always very well received on these shores.
Another duo we invite, making their debut with Avant Gare is Gidge. Gidge is a duo consisting of Jonatan Nilsson and Ludvig Stolterman from Umeå, a city in the north of Sweden. Jonatan and Ludvig met in school at the age of 16 and quickly became good friends. They had a mutual interest for electronic music, and in their second year together, after taking a Sound Production class, they started producing music. Twelve years later they have released their debut LP ”Autumn Bells”, EP “For Seoul”, short film “Lulin” and mini album “LNLNN”. The duo will be creating electronic chamber music that is simultaneously melancholic and luxurious. This is as well their only show of 2017.
London based migrant Ross Tones makes music under the ever so pertinent moniker Throwing Snow. Drawing influences from a vast array of genres encompassing dubstep, UK funky, house and post-rock, his productions have a consistent comforting warmth and glistening coldness. With remixes for Domino and Ninja Tune, releases on Raffertie’s Super imprint with hotly tipped vocalist PY, Jamie Russel’s Sneaker Social Club and a forthcoming 12” for Local Action; it appears that this hotly tipped producer will have little difficulty living up to the accompanying hype.
The venue for this extravaganza? We've curates the night at the newly refurbished Studio Spaces, the warehouse / photography space which now boasts one of the best soundsystems in London. A custom built Funktion 1 EVO6 which is the first ever in the UK.
We're down to the very last few hundred tickets for this show.
